Google Stadia, iPod Touch, Blackberry and other tech products died in 2022

Like previous years, we have seen multiple launches from different tech giants like Apple, Google, and others in 2022. But like every year, 2022 has seen companies kill off their products and services. Here’s a look at the tech products that died in 2022

Apple iPod Touch

Apple discontinued the iPod Touch in May of this year. The device has a similar design to the iPhone 4. The company said the iPhone-iPod hybrid device will no longer be available for purchase after all of its current supplies run out.

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) retired in June this year, after more than 25 years since its first introduction. Removing the plug, the company said, “But the web has evolved, and so have browsers. Incremental improvements in Internet Explorer couldn’t match general improvements in the web as a whole, so we started over. Microsoft Edge is a faster, more secure and more modern browser, the best browser for Windows, designed for today’s Internet.”

BlackBerry OS devices

BlackBerry finally unplugged its BlackBerry OS devices this year.

Game on Facebook

Facebook shut down its gaming app within two years of its launch. The app is no longer available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store for download.

​Google Hangouts

Google retired its Hangouts chat app this year and replaced it with Google Chat. The application is no longer available since November 1, 2022.

Google Stadia

Google has announced that its cloud gaming service – Google Stadia will remain live until January 18, 2023. Announcing via a blog post, Stadia Vice President and General Manager Phil Harrison said, “A few years ago we also launched a consumer gaming service , Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to consumer game streaming was built on a solid technology foundation, it didn’t gain the user buy-in we expected, so we made the difficult decision to start. to terminate our Stadia streaming service.

Android Auto for phone screen

In 2022, Google ended Android Auto for phone screens this year. Google Assistant Driving Mode is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. For people using Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience won’t go away. For those using the phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will switch to the Google Assistant driving mode. Apple iCloud Documents and Data Service

The service was introduced in 2014 which automatically syncs data from different apps. Apple discontinued this service earlier this year and it is now part of iCloud Drive.

​YouTube Go app

Launched in 2016, the YouTube Go app was shut down in August 2022. The lightweight Android app was designed for emerging markets. It was first launched in India and later debuted in over 130 countries across the world.

​Meta-Portal smart screens

Meta unplugged its smart displays and smartwatch project this year. “It was going to take so long and require so much investment to get into the enterprise segment, it seemed like the wrong way to invest your time and money,” chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth reportedly told employees during the interview. ‘a meeting.

Instagram, owned by Meta, has also shut down its two different apps – the Instagram Hyperlapse and Boomerang apps from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Amazon Books

Amazon closed its physical retail stores and pop-up stores this year.
